Penzance has been a major port for centuries, and the harbor still remains a focal point today. The city has the county's only promenade, which is located directly along the seafront. The compact town center contains many fine examples of Georgian architecture and is the area's commercial hub. The charming Chapel Street boasts numerous historical landmarks, and Market Jew Street is the main shopping district. Points of interest include the bizarre Egyptian House, the historic Union Hotel, and the interesting Nautical Museum. Nearby lie the medieval ruins of St. Michael's Mount, and Marazion, which is Cornwall's oldest chartered town.
